Fried chicken. a staple that neither Chef Ian Scott nor partner, Ayla Scott, ever really had during their childhood. decades later, in a mountain town tucked into the West elk mountains of colorado; the two found that you don’t need to know something from the beginning to make it one of your endings:

“fry or die”

we have been the proud owners of the slogar in crested butte, colorado for 7 years. we are the third proprietors of the slogar family style fried chicken dinner concept…and we are ready for the Cock-a-doodle-dooooo of

fried chicken to

get a taste of

the slogar:

fry or die.

“if you can’t live in new orleans, let

new orleans live in you”

we felt this the first time we visited new orleans 10 years ago. the food. the culture. the crawfish. the muddy mississippi…the food. THe fried chicken. Once we got our feet a little muddy, we started to explore the delicacies of the city with the help of locals we would meet along the way, other industry folks, and our pure curiosity. little by little our quest to get to know New orleans food, fried chicken specifically, we realized how special the slogar fried chicken tradition is.

“only bold people

make bold discoveries”

as we were scourging through jambalaya, collard greens,

oysters, red beans & rice, fried chicken sammies, fried

chicken tendies, fried chicken on the bone, gas station

fried chicken; we wanted our piece of the fry.

In april, Ian decided to really wing it and casually submitted our application to the 2024 fried chicken festival. not to say it was a “hopeless” effort, more hopeful on the contrary. as we began our bustling month of july in crested butte, the far off belief of two kids from colorado being accepted into a southern fare festival seemed of a sweet dream. then, to our complete astonishment, an email of acceptance sat in our inbox. we made it to the big easy down in new orleans!!! us! the slogar fried chicken! out of 1,000’s of applicants and experienced culinary groups, your slogar fried chicken made the cut to participate as one of only 45 vendors October 5 & 6, 2024.

we are not exactly spring chickens, if ya know what i mean. we will never say we have done it all - case in point - through all of the unique, wild, gypsy, cowboy cookin’ and catering and restaurant owning we have done - if you know, you know…we have never done anything like this before.

participating as a vendor at such a large production is…well, a large production between staffing from out of state, renting large refrigerator trucks, renting so many fryers, renting coolers, renting heat lamps, buying payment devices, permit fees, clean up, booth rentals, ingredients, travel, chicken!!!! and much more. we have built a team of collegeaus, of chosen family members, from past and present, the A-list…the creme de la creme…the people we have learned from. we are flying all 12 of them to new orleans to share the slogar fried chicken with the south! providing accommodations and good times for almost a week. all the while, our unbelievably reliable, hardworking, dependable staff here, in crested butte, will be running the joint for us. the thanks and pride, love and trust we hold for our staff is inexplainable and you truly only know if you know. we will be in the land of parades, celebrations, festivals and fried chicken. what an honor to share the slogar name with the big easy; and we are asking for your help.

we wonder often if the slogar family would be proud and flattered to know their name will live on farther than crested butte, co. we hope the person that brought the slogar family style fried chicken dinner concept to 517 2nd street - Mr. mac bailey - is proud. we thank megan and cjay clark for being great supporters and property owners…all three of us, three generations of owners, have had the privilege to be a part of your families and friends’ memory books. 43 years of life chapters and memories for a lot of our loyal customers. we are asking that you be a part of ours and help us get down to new orleans and spread the good word of the slogar fried chicken! as the old saying goes, and reigns true: anything helps!! $20, $50, $200…. $2,000! all can go towards paying employees, renting a lowboy cooler, lunch for staff, chickens!!!!! a cold bevvy… 😁

we have always been graced with customers that have easily become friends and family over the years. we cherish you and thank you! if you can make it down to new orleans, email us!!! we might have some tickets for ya!

be a part of the slogar’s memory book

we goin’ to NOLA
